A Collector of Taxes shall be appointed by the
Mayor, with the advice and consent of the Council. He shall hold office
for a term of four years, as provided by N.J.S.A. 40A:9-142. The salary
of the Collector of Taxes shall be as set forth in the annual Salary
Resolution. The Collector of Taxes may, after serving in office for
a continuous period of not less than five years or being reappointed
upon the completion of one full term of four years, upon filing a
certificate evidencing satisfactory completion of an approved course
of instruction in the functions and duties of tax collectors, acquire
tenure in office as provided by N.J.S.A. 40A:9-145. The Mayor and
Council may also grant tenure in office to any person who shall have
held the office of Collector of Taxes for 10 consecutive years, as
provided by N.J.S.A. 40A:9-144.
The Collector of Taxes shall collect all taxes,
whether current or delinquent, assessments, water rents, license fees
and all other moneys due to the Borough and perform and discharge
all other functions, powers and duties as prescribed by law for municipal
collectors of taxes.
The Collector of Taxes shall enter into a bond
in favor of the Borough of Shrewsbury in such amount as shall be prescribed
by the Mayor and Council, which bond shall be approved as to form
and surety by the Borough Attorney and shall be filed with the Borough
Clerk.
An Assistant to the Collector of Taxes shall
be appointed by the Mayor with the advice and consent of the Council.
He shall hold office at the pleasure of the Council. The salary of
the Assistant to the Collector of Taxes shall be as set forth in the
annual Salary Resolution.
The Assistant to the Collector of Taxes shall
be subordinate to the Collector of Taxes and shall perform such duties
which may be required of him by the Collector of Taxes within the
confines of the duties required in such office. He shall have the
power to do all and every act or acts which it may be lawful for the
Collector of Taxes to do in connection with the duties of his office.
The Assistant to the Collector of Taxes shall
enter into a bond in favor of the Borough of Shrewsbury in such amount
as shall be prescribed by the Mayor and Council, which bond shall
be approved as to form and surety by the Borough Attorney and shall
be filed with the Borough Clerk.
