The office of Zoning Officer is hereby created. A Zoning Officer shall be appointed by the Mayor with the advice and consent of the Borough Council for a term of one year, or until his successor is appointed and qualified.

A. 
The Zoning Officer shall serve as the administrative officer for matters involving issuance of zoning permits and for matters involving enforcement pursuant to the provisions of Chapter 94, Zoning and Land Development, of the Code of the Borough of Shrewsbury.
B. 
It shall be the duty of the Zoning Officer:
(1) 
To review all applications for zoning permits for the purpose of ascertaining whether or not the proposed building, structure or use complies in all respects with the provisions of Chapter 94.
(2) 
To endorse his approval upon such applications and upon all zoning permits where the proposed building, structure or use is in full compliance with the provisions of Chapter 94 and to endorse his disapproval upon all such applications where the proposed building, structure or use is not in full compliance with the provisions thereof.
(3) 
In connection with his approval or disapproval of such applications and zoning permits, to make inspections of the premises which are the subject of such applications as be necessary to ascertain their compliance or noncompliance with the provisions of Chapter 94.
(4) 
To inspect any building, place or premises or the use thereof is in compliance with the provisions of Chapter 94, and, if he finds the same not in compliance, to order, in writing, the correction of any such noncomplying premises or use. No zoning permit shall be issued unless or until the approval of the Zoning Officer has been endorsed upon the application therefor and upon such zoning permit.
(5) 
To file an annual report of all activities of the office of Zoning Officer with the Borough Administrator.
(6) 
To report to the Borough Administrator for administrative and budgetary purposes.

A. 
Before entering office, the Zoning Officer shall enter into a bond in favor of the Borough of Shrewsbury in such amount as shall be prescribed by the Mayor and Council, which bond shall be approved as to form and surety by the Borough Attorney and filed with the Borough Clerk.
B. 
The Zoning Officer, acting in good faith for the Borough in the discharge of his duties, shall not thereby render himself liable personally, and he is hereby relieved from all personal liability for any damage that may accrue to persons or property as a result of any act required or by reason of any act or omission in the discharge of his duties. Any suit brought against the Zoning Officer because of such act or omission performed by him in the enforcement of any ordinance shall be defended by the Borough Attorney until final termination of the proceeding.
The Zoning Officer may request and shall receive, so far as may be necessary in the discharge of his duties, the assistance and cooperation of other officials of the Borough.
The Zoning Officer, in the discharge of his official duties and upon proper identification, shall have authority to enter any building, structure or premises at any reasonable hour.
