The Town Board of the Town of New Hartford desires the term of office
of its designated elective officers to be for a four-year period. The purpose
of this article is to change the term of office of the Superintendent of Highways
in accordance with the provisions of Municipal Home Rule Law § 23,
Subdivision 2e, from a period of two years to a period of four years in order
to coincide with the four-year terms provided for Town Councilmen, Receiver
of Taxes and Assessments and Town Justices.
The term of office of the Superintendent of Highways of the Town of
New Hartford shall be changed from two years to four years commencing with
the term of such officer elected at the biennial election of such town in
the year 1989.
Such four-year term for the Superintendent of Highways shall commence
on the first day of January following the general election for the year 1989,
and, thereafter, the Superintendent of Highways shall be elected for a term
of four years.
