Pursuant to § 85 of the Town Law, the Board of Elections of
the County of Oneida is hereby authorized and directed to divide the Town
of New Hartford into four wards and to fix the boundaries thereof. In so dividing
the Town of New Hartford into wards, no town election district shall be divided,
and no election district thereafter created under the Election Law shall contain
parts of two or more wards. So far as possible the division shall be made
so that the number of voters in each ward shall be approximately equal. When
said Board of Elections shall have finally determined the boundaries of such
wards, it shall cause a map of the Town of New Hartford to be prepared showing
in detail the location of each ward and the boundaries thereof. The original
map so made shall be filed in the office of the Town Clerk of the Town of
New Hartford, and copies thereof shall be filed in the offices of the Clerk
of the County of Oneida and the Board of Elections of the County of Oneida.
The ward system shall be deemed established after such filing is complete.
The term of office of every Town Councilman shall terminate on the 31st
day of December next succeeding the first biennial town election held not
less than 120 days after the establishment of such ward system.
All provisions of § 85 of the Town Law inconsistent with the
provisions hereof are hereby superseded.
This chapter shall take effect immediately, subject to the requirement
of a mandatory referendum pursuant to § 23 of the Municipal Home
Rule Law.
