Section 5711-q, Subdivision 22, of the Unconsolidated Laws, as added thereto by L. 1972, c. 891, § 2, as it applies to the Village of Scarsdale, is hereby amended to read as follows:
"Special policemen. The Board of Trustees of the Village of Scarsdale may appoint as many citizens as it deems advisable to serve as special policemen, without pay, in the case of riot, pestilence or invasion, on election day, on a day of public celebration, on occasions of emergency or disaster or on such occasions and at such times as the Chief of Police of the Scarsdale Police Department may deem necessary or advisable for the training and drilling of special policemen. Such appointment shall be made only for a specified time. While so serving at the direction of said Chief of Police, such special policemen shall be vested with all the powers and privileges and shall perform all the duties of policemen in the regular police force of the Village. Each such special policeman shall wear a badge to be furnished by the Chief of Police. In making the appointments as special policemen, preference shall be given those listed on the civil service list for policemen available." |
