Except under special circumstances for which
specific permission has been granted by the Water Department, fire
hydrants are for the sole use of the Fire Department of the Village
of Scarsdale or of such other community for which the village supplies
water service for fire protection purposes.
A. Tampering with hydrants. No person shall tamper with
a fire hydrant nor, absent permission of the Water Department, draw
water therefrom, except Fire Department personnel in performance of
their duty.
B. Temporary use of hydrants. Where no other supply of
water is available, the Water Department may issue a hydrant permit
for temporary use of a hydrant. Such permit shall be issued for such
time, under such conditions and for such fee as the Water Department
shall prescribe. Issuance of such permits shall be consistent with
the paramount purpose of fire hydrants as instruments of public fire
protection.
C. Relocation of hydrants. A request for relocation of
a fire hydrant shall be made to the Water Department. If such relocation
request is approved, the Water Department shall perform all work associated
with such relocation, and the cost thereof shall be borne by the person
making such request.
D. Repair of hydrant. The cost of repair of a damaged
hydrant, when such damage is the result of a collision or other external
cause, shall be paid by the person causing such damage.
