The Township Committee shall appoint a Fire Official who shall also serve as Chief of the Fire Prevention Bureau; such appointment shall be made upon the recommendation of the Fire Department of the Township of South Hackensack. Commencing on January 1, 2003, said Fire Official/Fire Prevention Bureau Chief shall serve for a term of three years. The Township Committee may also appoint such other Fire Inspectors and other employees at it determines necessary to assist the Fire Official in the enforcement of the Uniform Fire Safety Act. Such appointments shall be made upon the recommendation of the Fire Department, and the Fire Inspectors so appointed shall thereby become members of the Fire Prevention Bureau of the Fire Department and shall each serve for a term of one year commencing on January 1, 2003. Such Inspectors and other employees shall serve under the exclusive direction and supervision of the Fire Official for the purposes of the enforcement of the Uniform Fire Safety Act. Any Fire Official, Fire Inspector or other employee appointed hereunder shall be subject to removal by the Township Committee for inefficiency or misconduct upon a hearing conducted by the Township Committee or a designated hearing officer at which such Fire Official, Fire Inspector or employee shall be afforded an opportunity to be heard.
