The Township of Lower Merion shall hereby become a participant in the social security system, and the benefits of old age and survivors insurance shall be extended to its employees and officers.
The President or Vice President of the Board of Commissioners and the Township Secretary or Assistant Township Secretary are hereby authorized to execute and deliver to the Secretary of Labor and Industry of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the state agency charged with the administration of Act No. 491,[1] the plan or plans and agreement required under the provisions of Section 6 of Act No. 491[2] and the Social Security Act, to extend coverage to the employees and officers of the township and to do all other things necessary to that end.

The Township Secretary and the Township Treasurer be and they are hereby authorized to make all required payments into the Contribution Fund established by Section 7 of Act No. 491,[1] and to establish such system of payroll deductions from salaries of employees and officers as may be necessary to their coverage under the Social Security Act.

The Board of Commissioners hereby appropriates from the general funds of the township the amounts necessary to pay into the Contribution Fund as provided in Section 4 of Act No. 491[1] and in accordance with the plan or plans and agreement.

The proper officers of the township are hereby authorized to do all things required by the Social Security Act, Act No. 491 and the plan or plans and agreement necessary to the continued implementation of the old age and survivors insurance system for the benefit of the employees and officers of the township.
The participation of the township in the social security system shall commence as of January 1, 1951.
