The Building and Planning Department of the Township of Lower Merion is hereby created pursuant to the Act of July 31, 1968, P.L. 805, Article
II, Section 201. The Department shall be administered by the appointed
Director and shall be deemed to be a continuance of the Building and
Planning Department as it existed prior to the adoption of this chapter,
except as otherwise provided or required by this chapter.

The Building and Planning Department, in carrying
out its planning functions:
A. Shall, at the request of the Board or Commission,
prepare revisions of and amendments to the Comprehensive Plan.
B. Shall examine, process and administer all subdivision
and land development proposals and regulations.
C. Shall prepare such proposed amendments to Chapter
135, Subdivision and Land Development, Chapter
155, Zoning, and Chapter
121, Stormwater Management and Erosion Control, as may be referred to it by the Board, any of its committees or the Commission.
D. Shall prepare and coordinate the development of the
Capital Improvement Program.
E. Shall examine all plans for the location, demolition,
removal or sale of any school district structure or land.
F. Shall prepare all federal, state and county grant
requests relating to community development.
G. Shall maintain all Township maps and real estate records.
H. May conduct traffic studies.
I. Shall prepare studies and conduct research upon the
request of the Board, any of its committees or the Commission.
J. May require from other departments and agencies of
the municipality information that relates to Planning.
K. Shall maintain and keep on file records of the Commission's
action.
L. Shall, in the performance of its functions, enter
upon any land to make examinations and surveys, with the consent of
the owner of such land.
M. Shall promote public interest and understanding of
planning.
