This chapter shall be known as and may be referred to as the "Electrical Installations Law of the Village of Airmont."
The Village Board of the Village of Airmont has found it necessary in order to protect the health, safety, and general welfare of the residents of the Village of Airmont to enact a local law regulating electrical installations in order to safeguard life and property from the hazards caused by improper electrical wiring.

Any qualified inspection agency/agencies approved and licensed by Rockland County pursuant to Rockland County Code, Chapter 250, hereinafter referred to as "Inspector," are hereby authorized and deputized as agents of the Village of Airmont to make inspections and reinspections of all electrical installations heretofore and herein described, and to approve or disapprove the same with respect to any building permit issued by the Building Department.
A. 
It shall be the duty of the Inspector to report in writing to the Building Inspector of the Village of Airmont, whose duty shall be to enforce all provisions of this chapter, all violations or deviations from or omissions of the electrical provisions of the New York State Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Code, or successor standards adopted by New York State, applicable to the Village of Airmont and all other applicable local laws, rules and regulations insofar as any of the same apply to electrical wiring. The Inspector shall make inspections and reinspection of electrical installations in and on properties in the Village of Airmont upon the written request of an authorized office of the Village of Airmont or as herein provided. The Inspector is authorized to make inspections and reinspection of electrical wiring, installations, devices, appliances and equipment, in or on properties within the unincorporated areas of the Village of Airmont where he deems it necessary for the protection of life and property. In the event of an emergency it is the duty of the Inspector to make electrical inspections upon the oral request of an office or officer of the Village of Airmont.
B. 
It shall be the duty of the Inspector to furnish written reports to the proper officials of the Village of Airmont and owners and/or lessees of property where defective electrical installations and equipment are found upon inspection. The Inspector shall authorize the issuing of a certificate of compliance when electrical installations and equipment are in conformity with this chapter. The Inspector shall direct that a copy of the certificate of compliance be sent to the Village of Airmont to the attention of the Building Inspector. No certificate of occupancy shall be issued by the Building Inspector until a certificate of compliance has been filed with the Building Inspector.
C. 
It shall be the duty of the Electrical Inspector to ensure the certificates include the property section, block and lot number, building permit number and any other information required by the Building Department. The Inspector must notify the Village upon discovery of work performed without a permit.

It shall be a violation of this chapter for any person, firm or corporation to install or cause to be installed, or to alter electrical wiring for light, heat or power in or on properties in the Village of Airmont until an application for inspection has been filed with the New York Board of Fire Underwriters. It shall be a violation of this chapter for a person, firm or corporation to connect or cause to be connected electrical wiring in or on properties for light, heat or power, to any source of electrical energy supply, prior to the issuance of a temporary certificate, or a certificate of compliance by the New York Board of Fire Underwriters.
A. 
Any person violating any section or provision of this chapter shall be punishable by a maximum fine of $250 or a maximum term of imprisonment of 15 days, or both.

B. 
In the case of continuing violation of this chapter, each day that such violation exists of this chapter shall constitute a separate and distinct offense.

C. 
In addition to the above-provided penalties and punishment, the Village Board may also maintain an action in the name of the Village of Airmont in any court of competent jurisdiction to compel compliance with or to restrain by injunction the violation of this chapter.
D. 
The remedies contained within this chapter shall further not be exclusive but shall be in addition to any other remedy provided by law, so long as not inconsistent herewith, nor shall the invoking of any remedy or procedure contained within this chapter preclude the pursuit of any and all other remedies, and the same are intended to be cumulative.
