The purpose of this Internet usage policy is
to define the rules and regulations for use of the Internet by Village
employees, Village officials and any other authorized user of Village
computing equipment.
A.
General. Use of the Internet is restricted to activities
that are related to Village business and employee education. Use for
personal gain, political advocacy, or entertainment is forbidden,
as is transmission or storage of commercial or personal advertisements,
solicitations and promotions.
B.
Copyright. Copyright materials (programs, text, images,
music, video, etc.) not belonging to the Village of Rhinebeck may
not be downloaded from the Internet without permission, in writing,
from the owner of the copyright.
C.
World-Wide Web usage. Browsing the World-Wide Web
is restricted to Village business during an employee's work hours.
Employees may, on their own time, browse the Internet for educational
purposes.
D.
Downloading. No graphics or programs are to be downloaded
from the Internet except by system administration personnel.
A.
Freedom of Information. All incoming and outgoing
e-mail pertaining to Village business that could be subject to a Freedom
of Information request must be printed and filed as if it were a letter.
B.
Password. Your e-mail password is confidential and
is not to be shared with anyone else.
C.
Virus protection. Do not open or download any e-mail
attachments unless you are expecting to receive them. Even attachments
from people you know may contain a virus.
D.
Anonymous. All e-mails sent by Village personnel must
have the sender's name attached to them.
E.
Spam. Village personnel must not send unsolicited
bulk mailings to any e-mail addresses.
F.
Denial of service. Village personnel must not send
repetitive e-mails to an e-mail address in sufficient quantity to
create a bottleneck on the recipient's mail server.
