Pursuant to § 11 of the Uniform Fire
Safety Act (P.L. 1983, c. 383), the New Jersey Uniform Fire Code (N.J.A.C. 5:70-1 et seq.)
shall be locally enforced in the Borough of Rockaway.
The local enforcing agency shall be the Rockaway
Fire Department through its Bureau of Fire Prevention which is hereby
created therein. The Bureau of Fire Prevention shall hereinafter be
known as the local enforcing agency.
The Bureau of Fire Prevention established by §
139-17 of this article shall carry out the periodic inspections of life hazard uses required by the Uniform Fire Code on behalf of the Commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs.

A. In addition to the registrations required by the Uniform Fire Code, the owner of all non-life hazard premises shall register with the Bureau of Fire Prevention. These premises shall be inspected once per year and shall pay an annual fee to the Borough of Rockaway based upon the square footage of the space or upon the number of garages or storage areas within multiple family dwelling units as set forth in Chapter
A263:
(1) Premises under 3,000 square feet.
(2) Premises over 3,000 square feet and under 6,000 square feet.
(3) Premises over 6,000 square feet and under 12,000 square feet.
(4) Premises over 12,000 square feet.
(5) Multilevel premises with up to and including three stories.
(6) Multifamily dwellings (Use Group R-2 as defined in the Uniform Construction
Code).
(7) Garages or storage areas within multi-family dwelling units.
(8) One-day fire permit for cooking use.

Pursuant to §§ 15 and 17 of the
Uniform Fire Safety Act, any person aggrieved by any action of the
local enforcing agency shall have the right to appeal to the Morris
County Construction Board of Appeals.
Enforcement, violations, and penalties shall
be managed in conformity with the Uniform Fire Safety Act, the Uniform
Fire Code and all other laws of the State of New Jersey.
