For the purpose of these regulations, the following
terms and words shall have the meaning hereto assigned to them:
COMMISSION
The Killingworth Planning and Zoning Commission.
CRITERIA
The road (Article
VII), drainage improvement (Article
IX), erosion and sedimentation control (Article
X) and final grading stabilization and landscaping (Article
XII) criteria specified in these regulations.
DRIVEWAY
A private road used solely for access to one principal building,
or group of commercial buildings under the same ownership, by the
occupants thereof and their guests and invitees.
LANE
A local road with no potential for additional development
providing access to a highly localized neighborhood and having a pavement
width of 20 feet.
LANE, CUL-DE-SAC
A local permanent dead-end lane with no potential for additional
development serving not more than six residential units and no longer
than 700 feet. On-street parking is prohibited.
LANE, LOOP
A lane with no potential for additional development beginning
and ending on the same local street or thoroughfare, serving not more
than 15 residential units, and no longer than 2,000 feet. Spacing
of the lane intersections with the local street or thoroughfare, as
measured between their center lines, shall be at least 450 feet apart.
On-street parking is prohibited.
LOCAL STREET
A road which primarily provides access to abutting properties
or a highly localized neighborhood and having a pavement width of
24 feet.
LOCAL STREET, LOOP ROAD
A local street beginning and ending on the same local street
or thoroughfare, length not to exceed 2,000 feet. Spacing of the loop
road intersections with the local street or thoroughfare, as measured
between their center lines, shall be at least 450 feet and not more
than 1,000 feet apart.
LOCAL STREET, THROUGH ROAD
A local street beginning on one local street or thoroughfare
and ending on another local street or thoroughfare, or ending on the
same local street or thoroughfare, provided that the local street,
through road, intersections with the local street or thoroughfare,
as measured between their center lines, are at least 1,000 feet apart.
PRIVATE ROAD
A road serving not more than eight lots of four-acre equivalent
minimum buildable lot area and owned by an association of all lot
owners in the subdivision. The total length of all dead-end private
roads within the subdivision shall not exceed 1,000 feet.
ROAD
Any land intended for or used as a way for motor vehicle
travel, including all appurtenant open spaces, sidewalks, drainage
facilities and other improvements.
STANDARD DETAIL DRAWINGS
The Standard Road and Drainage Detail Drawings appended to
these regulations as Plates 1 through 18, as the same may from time to time be amended, the contents
of which shall be considered prescribed criteria and standards hereunder.
STANDARDS
The road (Article
VIII) and drainage improvement (Article
X) standards specified in these regulations.
STATE STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS
The current criteria contained in the publication titled
"Standards and Specifications for Roads, Bridges and Incidental Construction,"
and all additions and revisions supplemental thereto, as promulgated
by the Connecticut Department of Transportation at the time of the
work or installation of improvements to be governed thereby hereunder.
SUBDIVISION
A subdivision as defined in § 8-18 of the Connecticut
General Statutes, as the same may from time to time be amended, but
not including a resubdivision.
SUBGRADE
The area of a roadbed upon which the base, pavement and shoulders
are, or are to be, constructed.
TOWN
The Town of Killingworth.
TOWN ROAD
Any road accepted by the Town for use by the general public.
