The County of Sullivan recognizes that it is difficult for many people to timely pay their real property taxes and has undertaken to help to provide a mechanism to enable taxpayers to deposit money into a special account with their local bank, similar to a Christmas Club, for the accumulation of these necessary funds. The local banks have agreed to participate in this program at the request of the Chairman of the County Legislature.
Local Tax Collectors are hereby authorized to include with each tax bill an enclosure in the form of the notice hereinbelow to notify taxpayers of their opportunity to participate in this voluntary program with their local bank. This authorization will terminate upon the termination of the program by the banks.
The notice to be included with the tax bill by the Collector shall be in the following form:
"Local banks have agreed to participate in a program to provide an account in the nature of a Christmas Club, whereby you will be able to deposit money on a regular basis to be used for the payment of your future taxes as they become due. The bank will not assume responsibility to pay the tax; the bank will issue a check directly to you and you
will be able to accumulate the funds necessary to pay the tax."
