[Amended 11-5-1997 by L.L. No. 19-1997; 8-6-2002 by L.L. No. 10-2002; 11-15-2005 by L.L. No. 16-2005; 2-17-2009 by L.L. No. 4-2009]
The uniform system of numbering properties and
principal buildings, as shown on the map identified and entitled "Sixteenth
Amended Street Naming and Property Numbering Map," dated February
17, 2009, together with all of the explanatory matter thereon, is
hereby adopted for the Town of Yorktown.
There is hereby established an official system
of street names in the Town of Yorktown, New York, as shown on the
aforesaid map, a true copy of which is attached hereto and made part
of this article. The names of the streets in said Town of Yorktown shall
be and remain as shown on said map, unless modified or amended as
provided for by law.
No new streets shall be accepted by said Town
of Yorktown until such streets shall be identified and designated
by name, and if new streets are extensions of existing streets, the
name of the existing street shall attach to such extension; if such
new street is not an extension of an existing street, then the name
by which the new street is designated shall not be identical nor bear
any similarity or conflict with the names of any existing street as
shown on said map, amendment or modification thereof.
The following specifications, standards and
requirements in connection with the numbering of properties and principal
buildings are hereby adopted:
A. All properties or parcels of land within the area
as shown on the above-mentioned map shall hereafter be identified
for street location purposes by reference to the uniform numbering
system adopted herein, provided that all existing numbers of property
and buildings not now in conformity with the provisions of this article
shall be changed to conform to the system herein adopted within three
months from the date of the adoption of this article.
B. A separate number shall be assigned for each 25 feet
of street frontage.
C. Each principal building shall bear the number assigned
to the street frontage on which the front entrance is located. In
case a principal building is occupied by more than one business or
family dwelling unit, the entrance to each separate use of such principal
building shall bear a separate number.
D. Numerals indicating the official numbers for each
principal building or for each separate entrance as defined above
shall be posted in a manner as to be visible from the street on which
the property is located. Whenever a building is situated more than
50 feet from the street line, the official numbers shall be affixed
to a gate post, fence, tree, post or other appropriate place so as
to be easily discernible from the street line. The official numerals
shall be placed on existing buildings by the owner or agent and within
30 days after the assigning of the proper number by notice. The numbers
used shall be not less than three inches in height and shall be made
of a durable and clearly visible material.
The Building Inspector shall enforce the provisions
of this article and shall keep a record of all numbers assigned.
Any person committing an offense against any
provision of this article shall be guilty of a violation punishable
by imprisonment for a term not exceeding 15 days or by a fine not
exceeding $250, or by both such fine and imprisonment. The continuation
of an offense against the provisions of this article shall constitute,
for each day the offense is continued, a separate and distinct offense
hereunder.
