No person as owner, proprietor, lessee or otherwise shall operate a taxicab or limousine business in the Township without first obtaining a license, the fee for which shall be as set forth in Chapter
71, Fees.
Application for a taxicab license shall imply
consent to inspection of all taxicabs covered by the license by the
Chief of Police. Prior to issuance of a license, the Chief of Police
shall determine that the taxicabs to be licensed are clean, fit, of
good appearance and well painted, and appear to be safe and suitable
for the transportation of passengers. The Chief of Police shall reinspect
all taxicabs from time to time while a license is in effect.

No person shall drive a taxicab or limousine for a business licensed and operating within the Township unless he has obtained a driver's license from the Township Clerk, the fee for which shall be as set forth in Chapter
71, Fees. In addition to the other information that may be required of applicants for licenses in the Township, the applicant for a taxicab or limousine driver's license shall furnish his driver's license, or an enlarged photocopy of his driver's license, as evidence that he has the appropriate state license to operate a motor vehicle for this purpose.
As used in this chapter, the following terms
shall have the meanings indicated:
OPERATE
To own, manage or conduct the business of transporting passengers
for a fare in the motor vehicle other than a duly licensed omnibus
This chapter shall not apply to any person who
operates or drives a taxicab through or to the Township of Little
Falls but does not pick up paying passengers therein and does not
hold himself out as ready, willing and able to do so.
Any applicant for a license to operate a taxicab
or limousine business shall be required to file with the Township
Clerk the following:
A. A copy of an insurance policy with a company duly
licensed to transact business under the insurance laws of the State
of New Jersey that demonstrates coverage in the amount required by
law.
B. A certificate of insurance, naming the Township as
holder of such certificate, covering any and all vehicles operated
for hire by the licensed business.
Any applicant for a license to operate a taxicab
or limousine service in the Township shall file with the Township
Clerk, concurrently with the required proof of insurance, a power
of attorney wherein and whereby the owner shall appoint the Chief
Financial Officer of the Township his true and lawful attorney for
the purpose of acknowledging service of any process out of a court
of competent jurisdiction to be served against the insured.
Any person violating the provisions of this chapter shall, upon conviction, be liable to the penalty stated in Chapter
1, General Provisions, Article
I.
