A program is hereby established for the mandatory
separation of newspaper, glass and plastic within the Town of Pawling.
All town residents who make use of the town transfer station for the
disposal of their garbage and trash shall separate newspapers, glass
and plastic from their garbage and trash before disposing of this
waste in the compactor.
For the purposes of this section, the following
words and phrases shall have the meanings respectively ascribed to
them by this section:
GARBAGE
Putrescible animal, fish, foul, fruit or vegetable waste
incident to and resulting from the use, preparation, cooking and consumption
of food.
GLASS
All products made from silica or sand, soda ash and limestone,
the product being transparent or translucent and being used for the
packaging or bottling of various matter and all other material commonly
known as "glass;" excluding, however, ceramics, light bulbs, blue
and flat glass and glass commonly known as "window glass."
NEWSPAPER
All uncontaminated paper commonly referred to as "newsprint"
and distributed at stated intervals, usually daily or weekly, having
printed thereon news and opinions and containing advertisements and
other matters of public interest.
PLASTIC
All containers made from high-density polyethylene, including
but not limited to bottles having contained the following types of
liquid: milk, juice, water, bleach, detergent, oil, antifreeze and
auto window-washing fluid.
TRASH
All nonputrescible solid waste.
All residents who use the town transfer station
shall separate from the garbage and trash all newspaper, glass and
plastic. All categories of recyclable material as defined in this
section shall be disposed of in separate containers that shall be
made available to residents at the transfer station. Once deposited
in the containers provided, all recyclable materials become the property
of the Town of Pawling.
No person shall take or remove any recyclable
material from the Pawling Town transfer station unless authorized
to do so by the governing body of the Town of Pawling.
