For the purposes of this chapter, the City of Rye is hereby divided into the following classes of residence, business, parking, floating, landmarks preservation and coastal zone districts:

A. 
Zoning Map. The boundaries of these districts are hereby established as shown on the map entitled "Zoning Map of the City of Rye, New York," which accompanies and is hereby made a part of this chapter.[1] The district boundary lines are intended in the main to follow lot lines as they existed on the effective date of this section, but where such a boundary line obviously does not coincide with the lot lines, or where it is not the center line of a railroad right-of-way or of a street or watercourse or the shoreline of a body of water, or where it is not located by dimensions shown on the map, its position shall be as shown on the map by scaled measurement. Where a right-of-way, street or watercourse is shown as a district boundary line, the center line is intended to be the boundary line. If the district classification of any land is in question, it shall be deemed to be in the most restricted adjoining district. The district classification of any water area within the City of Rye inshore from the mean low-tide line on the effective date of this section shall be deemed to be the same as the classification of the adjoining land area; and the district area extending outward from the shore beyond the said mean low-tide line shall be "R-1."
