In order to afford centralized automotive maintenance and repair services
for the Department of Public Safety, a Division of Automotive Maintenance
and Repair is hereby established for the Department of Public Safety of the
Town of West New York, New Jersey.
Said Division shall be under the direct supervision of the Director
of the Department of Public Safety, and all personnel assigned to said Division;
all operations; work priorities; automotive maintenance; automotive repairs;
acquisition, use and care of all equipment, tools, replacements and supplies;
for the complete maintenance, repair and servicing of all Police Department
and Fire Department vehicles, shall be under the direction and supervision
of said Director of the Department of Public Safety, with appropriate consultation
with the Chief of Police, Chief of the Fire Department and appropriate public
safety personnel.

Said Public Safety Automotive Maintenance and Repair Division shall
consist of one Public Safety Supervisor of Garage who shall be in charge of
the Public Safety Garage and all equipment therein, one Foreman of Automotive
Maintenance and two automotive maintenance mechanics.
Nothing in this chapter creating a Division of Automotive Maintenance
and Repair for the Department of Public Safety shall in any way prevent, prohibit
or limit the use of specialized outside services or assistance from other
sources, as needed, from time to time, as heretofore, to ensure that all police
and fire vehicles and equipment are kept at the highest state of readiness
and efficiency so as to meet any public safety emergency or condition which
may arise at any time.

The Automotive Maintenance and Repair Foreman may be a Police Department
officer. The Supervisor of the Public Safety Garage shall be a Police Department
officer with the rank of Sergeant. The two mechanics shall be civilian employees.

The Automotive Maintenance and Repair Foreman and Supervisor shall receive
pay equivalent to a Sergeant of Police, unless they hold a higher rank, based
on public safety service or experience.
