The Town Board of the Town of Cortlandt, pursuant
to the provisions of Article 7 of the Agriculture and Markets Law
of the State of New York, must oversee the licensing, identification
and control of dogs within the Town. The provisions of Article 7 may
be enforced by either criminal or civil proceedings. To promote the
efficient administration of Article 7 of the Agriculture and Markets
Law in the Town of Cortlandt, the Town Board ordains the following
to be the Town of Cortlandt election thereunder.

Whenever Article 7 of the Agriculture and Markets
Law of the State of New York provides for either criminal or civil
enforcement procedures, the dog control officer of the Town of Cortlandt
shall commence an action to recover a civil penalty not exceeding
$3,000 for any violations committed under the provisions therein.
Only civil penalties shall be sought for any violations of Article
7 of the Agriculture and Markets Law of the State of New York by the
dog control officer of the Town of Cortlandt.
