No person shall carry, discharge use or hunt
with firearms of any description, air guns, spring guns, bows or arrows,
slingshots or other missile-projecting devices within the City of
Egg Harbor; provided, however, that this chapter shall not prohibit
the use of firearms or bows and arrows for the purpose of target practice
at an outdoor range approved by the Common Council on recommendation
from the Police Department. This section shall, however, not apply
to indoor ranges or to police or law enforcement officers or to members
of the military forces of the State of New Jersey or the United States
in discharge oftheir lawful duties, nor to citizens actually engaged
in defense of their persons or property in such manner as may otherwise
be provided by law. This section shall not apply to licensed sportsmen
involved in the sport of hunting, following the state rules and regulations
in Title N.J.S.A. 23, in the area from the northern border of Durer
Street to the middle of the Mullica River, from the western border
of Hamburg Avenue to the eastern border of Bremen Avenue, providing
said sportsmen are in compliance with all applicable state rules and
regulations concerning hunting within the State of New Jersey.

As used in this chapter, the following terms
shall have the meanings indicated:
FIREARM
Any rifle, shotgun, revolver, pistol, handgun, muzzle loader,
or blackpowder rifle, or any other similar mechanism by whatever
name known, which is designed to expel a projectile through a gun
barrel by the action of any explosive, gas, compressed air or spring.
RIFLE
A weapon designed or redesigned, made or remade, and intended
to be fired from the shoulder and made or remade to use the energy
of an explosive in a fixed, metallic cartridge to fire only a single
projectile through a rifled bore.
SHOTGUN
Any weapon designed or redesigned, made or remade, and intended
to be fired from the shoulder and made or remade to use the energy
of the explosive in a fixed shotgun shell to fire through a smooth
bore either a number of balls of shot or a single projectile for each
single pull of the trigger.
No person shall use, discharge or convey into
the City of Egg Harbor City any caps for cap pistols, chemical guns,
sparklers or fireworks of any description; provided, however, that
the Common Council may grant permission to a duly qualified operator
to set up and discharge a public display of fireworks.
Any purchase or sale of a firearm of any description
within the City of Egg Harbor City shall be made in compliance with
the laws of the State of New Jersey applicable thereto.

Each and every person violating any of the provisions
of this chapter shall be subject, upon conviction thereof, to a fine
not exceeding $1,000, a term of imprisonment not exceeding 90 days
or a period of community service not exceeding 90 days, or any combination
thereof, in the discretion of the Judge before whom said conviction
shall be had. In addition thereto, the Judge may, and upon conviction
of a second offense shall, order the permanent impounding of the firearm
of the offender.
Nothing herein contained shall be held to vary
or alter the provisions of law heretofore or hereafter existing with
reference to revolvers, pistols or concealed weapons.
