The purpose of this chapter is to comply with the provisions of N.J.S.A. 26:8-1, provide for definitions, appointment of a Registrar of Vital Statistics, Deputy Registrar, Alternate Deputy Registrar, term of office, removal from office, duties and fees.
As used in this chapter, the following definitions shall apply:
REGISTRAR OF VITAL STATISTICS
Individual appointed to fulfill the duties prescribed in N.J.S.A. 26:8-25, under the direction of the State Registrar.
REGISTRATION DISTRICT
The Township of Egg Harbor.
VITAL RECORDS
The birth, death, fetal death, marriage, civil union and domestic partnership records from which vital statistics are produced.

VITAL STATISTICS
Statistics concerning births, deaths, fetal deaths, marriages, civil unions and domestic partnerships.

A. 
Appointment. The Registrar of Vital Statistics shall be appointed by the Township Committee of the Township of Egg Harbor. Notice of appointment shall be immediately made to the State Registrar upon acceptance and filing of an oath.
B. 
Term of office. The term of office shall be three years, unless the Municipal Clerk is appointed as Registrar, then the term shall be concurrent with the term of the Municipal Clerk. The Registrar shall serve until a successor has been appointed and qualified. At least ten days before the expiration of the term of office the reappointment of the Registrar or a successor shall be made by the Township Committee.
C. 
Oath. Upon appointment and prior to commencement of duties, the Registrar shall take an oath to perform faithfully and impartially the duties of the office. If any such oath is not filed within 10 days after appointment, the office shall be deemed vacant.
D. 
Vacancy. Any vacancy occurring in the office of Registrar shall be filled in the same manner as the original appointment, but for the unexpired term only.
E. 
Compensation. No additional compensation shall be established unless and until same is provided for by the Salary Ordinance.
F. 
Removal from office. If in the judgment of the State Registrar the local Registrar fails to perform or neglects to discharge efficiently the duties of the office of Registrar, he/she shall be subject to penalties as provided by law and any such removal shall be deemed a vacancy.
A. 
Deputy Registrar. The duly appointed Registrar, immediately upon acceptance of the appointment, shall appoint a deputy to assist in the normal duties and operations of the office of Registrar, whose duty shall be to act in the Registrar's stead in case of absence, disability or death. In case of death, the deputy shall act as Registrar until a new Registrar has been appointed and qualified.
B. 
Alternate Deputy Registrar. The duly appointed Registrar may appoint one or two Alternate Deputy Registrars, if the Registrar deems such an appointment(s) to be necessary for the function, efficiency and quality of service to the public.
C. 
Duties. The Deputy Registrar and Alternate(s) shall have the authority provided by statute and shall receive instruction from and be under the supervision of the Registrar, who shall have final authority as outlined in this chapter and N.J.S.A. 26:8-25, entitled “Duties of local registrar.”
D. 
Oath. An oath of office shall be required in the same manner as specified in § 214-3C.
E. 
Compensation. No additional compensation shall be established unless and until same is provided for by the Salary Ordinance.
F. 
Removal from office. If in the judgment of the local Registrar any Deputy or Alternate fails to perform or neglects to discharge efficiently the duties of the office of Registrar, he/she shall be subject to penalties as provided by law and any such removal shall be deemed a vacancy.
A. 
The duties of the Registrar of Vital Statistics, incorporated herein, are pursuant to and known as N.J.S.A. 26:8-25 and any subsequent amendments thereto.
B. 
Make and transmit each month reports as required by the State Registrar on or before the 10th day of the month.
C. 
Provide statistical information as may be requested by other governmental agencies, without violating the confidential aspects of the information contained in the Vital Records.
D. 
Provide information to the requesting public, without violating the confidential aspects of the information contained in the Vital Records.
E. 
Collect and transmit fees quarterly, as prescribed to the Municipal Finance Officer and the New Jersey Division of Youth and Family Services.

A. 
For any search of vital records and upon the preparation of a certified copy of such record, the fee shall be $15 for the first copy and $10 for each additional copy of the same record purchased simultaneously.
B. 
The fee to process a request for amendment to New Jersey vital records due to misinformation filed by applicant(s) of record shall be $25.
C. 
The fee for the preparation of any vital record not specified in this subsection shall be as prescribed by the State of New Jersey, Department of Health.
D. 
All fees collected shall be at the time of application or preparation of vital records, and there shall be no refund of fees paid for services performed.
