Every person intending to erect any building, or to alter the location of an external wall or the supports of any existing building, within ten (10) feet of any street, whether such street is duly accepted or otherwise dedicated to public use, shall, at least six (6) days before proceeding to build or to alter the location of such wall or supports and after obtaining a permit for the same, file in the office of the City Engineer a written notice of such intention, on a form furnished by the City Engineer, stating the location and use of the building as proposed.

The City Engineer shall, within five (5) days after receiving such notice, proceed to mark out and define the street line and grade adjacent to the proposed building, if he can accurately determine such line and grade, and shall make a return of such marking of line and grade to the inspector, and the inspector shall not allow the use of any permit for such building or alteration until such return is so filed.

For the purpose of prescribing regulations governing the erection and construction of buildings of all types, the City of Pawtucket operates under the provisions of the Rhode Island State Building Code currently in effect as provided for under the Rhode Island General Laws and any changes or amendments to said law.
