A. For the purposes of this chapter, the following terms shall have the meanings indicated:
The quantity of oxygen utilized in the biochemical oxidation of organic matter under standard laboratory procedure in five days of 20º C., expressed in parts per million by weight.
That part of the lowest horizontal piping which receives the discharge from soil, waste and other sewage pipes inside the walls of the building and conveys it to the service connection.
A sewer receiving both surface drainage and sewage.
Solid wastes from the processing, preparation, cooking, dispensing, handling, storage and sale of food products.
The Health Officer of the Town of Bar Harbor or his authorized representative.
The liquid wastes from industrial processes, as distinct from sewage.
Any outlet into a watercourse, pond, ditch, lake or other body of surface or ground water.
Any individual, firm, company, association, society, corporation or group.
A number indicating the degree of acidity or basicity of a solution. Numerically a pH of seven indicates a neutral solution. Numbers below seven indicate an acid condition, the smaller the number the stronger the acid, and numbers above seven indicate a basic condition, the larger the number the stronger the basic.
A master plumber who has been licensed by the State of Maine and appointed by the Town Council to act as such.
A sewer in which all owners of abutting properties have equal rights and which is owned and/or controlled by the Town of Bar Harbor.
A sewer which carries sewage and to which storm drainage and groundwater are not intentionally admitted. In this chapter the word "sewer" means "sanitary sewer."
The branch sewer line from the public sewer to the public right-of-way line of a dwelling or other establishment.

The combination of water-carried wastes from residences, business buildings, institutions and industrial establishments, except industrial wastes.
A pipe or conduit for carrying sewage.
All facilities for collecting, pumping, treating and disposing of sewage.
The wastes from the processing, preparation, cooking and dispensing of food that have been shredded to such a degree that all particles will be carried freely under the flow conditions normally prevailing in public sewers, with no particle greater than 1/2 inch in any dimension.
A pipe which carries storm and surface waters as drainage but excludes sewage and industrial wastes.
The Superintendent of Public Works, Town of Bar Harbor, or his authorized deputy, agent or representative.
Solids that either float on the surface of or are in suspension in water, sewage or other liquids.
The Town of Bar Harbor, Hancock County, Maine, a municipality of the State of Maine, acting by and through its Town Council.
The Town Council of the Town of Bar Harbor.
A channel in which a flow of water occurs naturally, either continuously or intermittently.
B.
"Shall" is mandatory, and "may" is permissive.
