Unless otherwise expressly provided, the following words, for the purpose
of this chapter shall have the meanings herein indicated:
One or more acts of transporting a passenger or passengers for hire,
where the terminal of such operation is located in the Town.
Any person driving a taxicab or limousine for hire upon the streets,
highways, avenues or public places located within the Town, which taxicab
or limousine is operated from a terminal located in the Town.
A chauffered vehicle operated from a terminal located in the Town,
other than taxicabs, used in the business of carrying passengers for hire
in connection with funerals, weddings, amusement, sports and similar functions
on a prior agreement, fixed-rate basis, but excluding any motor vehicle used
solely to transport persons for a housing complex pursuant to a contract or
used under agreement with housing complex residents to provide regular transportation
service for its residents or guests at no additional charge to its residents
or guests.
The picking up of a passenger for hire within the Town, whether such
passenger is discharged at a destination within the Town or without the Town.
Nothing in this chapter shall apply to abridge, limit or regulate the right
of any person not licensed hereunder to convey passengers by taxicab or limousine
from points of origin outside the Town to points of destination within the
Town or through the Town.
Any person owning one or more taxicabs or limousines operated from
a terminal located in the Town and causing any such vehicle to be driven upon
the streets, highways, avenues or public places located within the Town for
hire. "Owner" shall also include a purchaser under a reserve title contract,
conditional sales agreement or vendor's lien agreement and the lessee
of any such vehicle or vehicles.
A person other than the driver who is an occupant of a taxicab or
limousine, and for the purpose of this chapter such person or persons shall
be presumed to be a passenger for hire.
An individual, firm, partnership, unincorporated association, corporation
or any other legal entity.
The owner of 25% or more of a corporation's outstanding and
issued shares, whether or not publicly traded.
A motor vehicle operated from a terminal located in the Town and
used in the business of carrying passengers for hire, other than a limousine,
and not operated on a fixed route.
A fixed base of operation of the owner of a taxicab or limousine,
including but not limited to where taxicabs or limousines are dispatched from
or stored.
The unincorporated areas of the Town of Ossining.
