The Mayor is authorized to appoint Code Enforcement Officers, with the
advice and consent of the Council.
The salary of the Code Enforcement Officers shall be established by
the Council.
The Code Enforcement Officers, in accordance with procedures and guidelines
approved by the Council, shall:
A. Ascertain whether violations of the city ordinances appear
to exist.
B. Issue written notice of apparent violation where violations
appear to exist.
C. Investigate complaints of alleged violations.
D. Report to the Mayor, at the Mayor's discretion,
the names and addresses of those alleged to have violated any city ordinances.
E. Conduct such investigations as may from time to time
be necessary in the discharge of the foregoing duties.
F. Act as prosecuting witness for the city and, in that
behalf, secure process for the judicial enforcement of the city ordinances.
Nothing herein contained shall be construed to permit the Code Enforcement
Officers to arrest or detain any persons; to enter, without the consent of
the lawful occupant, any dwellings; nor to stop any vehicle; nor to bear arms.
Nothing herein contained is intended to diminish in any manner the rights
and obligations of Prince George's County and the State of Maryland within
the limits of the City of New Carrollton.
The Code Enforcement Officers may be removed by the Mayor at his or
her discretion for good cause shown.
