Pursuant to N.J.S.A. 26:3-9, the township adopts the provisions of N.J.S.A.
26:3-3 et seq.
The Board of Health of the Township of Readington shall consist of seven
members.
A.
The members constituting the Board of Health shall be
citizens of the township appointed by resolution of the Township Committee
for a term of three years from January 1 of the year of their appointment
and until a successor shall have qualified. Nothing contained herein shall
prohibit one or more members of the Township Committee from being appointed
to the Board.
B.
Members of the Board shall be appointed by the Township
Committee for terms of three years, except that upon the appointment of the
original local Board of Health under this chapter, three members shall be
appointed for three years, two members shall be appointed for two years and
two members shall be appointed for one year. All original initial terms of
appointment as designated herein shall be deemed to be effective as of January
1, 1982, for the purpose of calculation of their expiration date. Thereafter
as the aforesaid terms expire, said appointments shall all be for a term of
three years. Upon the occurrence of any vacancy for any reason, said vacancy
shall be filled for the unexpired term by appointment by the Township Committee.
C.
Any person or appointed member of the local Board of
Health shall be a resident of the Township of Readington. The term of any
member of the local Board of Health shall be automatically terminated upon
a change of residence to a location outside the Township of Readington.
D.
The Board shall elect on the day of its organization
a Chairman and Vice Chairman from among its members, who shall serve as such
until the first regular meeting of the Board in January of the following year.
The Chairman and Vice Chairman shall be selected annually by and from among
the members of the Board at each regular meeting in January thereafter. At
the same time set forth above, the Board shall also appoint a Secretary, who
shall be an employee of the township.

The Board of Health shall adopt bylaws governing its procedural operations.
The Board of Health shall have the powers and perform the duties prescribed
by N.J.S.A. 26:3-31 and also by municipal ordinance. It shall be the duty
of the Board of Health to enforce all ordinances of the township which relate
to public health and public health nuisances.
All ordinances, resolutions, appointments, rules, regulations, orders
and contracts of the present Board of Health of the Township of Readington
now in effect shall remain in full force and effect unless and until changed
by the Board of Health established by this chapter.
The Board of Health shall have the power and authority to employ experts
and staff for enforcement in carrying out its purposes, including a sanitarian
and other persons as provided by law, and to pay for their services and such
other expenses as may be necessary and proper, not to exceed in all the amount
appropriated by the Township Committee for the use of the Board of Health.
All expenditures of money shall be presented on an itemized voucher
to the Township Committee for approval.

Pursuant to the provisions of N.J.S.A. 26:3-3, one alternate member
shall be appointed to the Readington Township Board of Health.
The alternate member shall be a citizen of the Township of Readington
appointed by majority vote of the Readington Township Committee. The alternate
member shall be designated at the time of appointment by the Township Committee
as "Alternate No. 1."
The term of the alternate member shall be for two years. A vacancy occurring
otherwise than by expiration of term shall be filled by the Township Committee
for the unexpired term only.
An alternate member shall not be permitted to act on any matter in which
the alternate member has either directly or indirectly any personal or financial
interest.
An alternate member may, after public hearing if the alternate member
requests one, be removed from office by the Township Committee for cause.
An alternate member may participate in discussions of the proceedings
of the Readington Township Board of Health, but may not vote except in the
absence or disqualification of a regular member. A vote shall not be delayed
in order that a regular member vote instead of an alternate member.
