The purpose of this chapter is to provide for the legal defense and financial protection of various officers and employees of the Town of Cheektowaga from state or federal civil actions or proceedings commenced against them as a result of an act or omission occurring while they were acting within the scope of their employment or duties.
The Town Board of the Town of Cheektowaga does hereby determine and agree:
A. 
To confer the benefits of § 18 of the Public Officers Law upon its employees.
B. 
That the town shall be liable for the costs incurred under these provisions.
This chapter shall take effect immediately upon filing with the Secretary of State and State Comptroller of the State of New York.
