There is hereby created a Zoning Board of Appeals consisting of five regular members and three alternate members who shall be elected by the electors of the Town to serve terms of four years each. Such members possess the powers and duties prescribed by law and Chapter 180, Zoning, of the Code of the Town of Norfolk.

Present members and alternates shall continue to serve their appointed terms. Successors shall be elected at the biennial election of the Town and shall begin to serve on the second Tuesday next following the day of said election.
Any member of the Board who is absent from three consecutive regular meetings and any intervening duly-called special meetings may be considered by vote of the Board to have resigned from the Board, and such vacancy, and any other vacancy occurring in the membership of said Board, including the membership on the Board of Alternates, shall be filled for the unexpired portion of the term by appointment by the Board. The foregoing provision concerning absences from three consecutive meetings shall not apply to the Board of Alternates.
