The Board of Assessors of the Town of Old Lyme is hereby abolished and
in lieu thereof a single Town Assessor shall be appointed as hereinafter prescribed
and shall have all the powers, duties and responsibilities conferred or imposed
upon the Board of Assessors by law.

Said Assessor shall be appointed by the majority vote of the Board of
Selectmen and the Board of Finance of the Town within 30 days after the effective
date of this article and shall hold office until the last day of March 1965,
and biennially thereafter said Board of Selectmen and Board of Finance, by
a majority vote, shall appoint the Assessor for a term of two years. Any vacancy
in the office of Assessor shall be filled by majority vote of said Board of
Selectmen and Board of Finance within 30 days after the same occurs, either
on a temporary basis or for the unexpired portion of the term of office.
Any incumbent of the office of Assessor may be removed by a majority
vote of the Board of Selectmen and the Board of Finance for good cause and
after hearing.
Clerical assistants employed in the office of the Assessor shall be
nominated by the Assessor and appointed by the Board of Selectmen and the
Board of Finance.
