It shall be the policy of the Town of Berne that the Town shall provide
individual health insurance coverage with prescription drug coverage at no
cost to the employee if the employee retires from Town service, is 65 years
of age or older at the time of the retirement and at the time that the employee
leaves Town service he or she has completed at least 10 years of full-time
service with the Town or is 62 years of age or older and at the time the employee
retires from Town service has completed at least 25 years of full-time service
with the Town. If the employee retires from Town service prior to age 65 and
at the time that the employee leaves Town service he or she has completed
10 years of full-time service with the Town, the former employee may remain
in the Town's health insurance group at the former employee's cost
until the former employee is 65 years of age, at which time the Town shall
become responsible for the costs of individual health insurance coverage.
In all of the aforementioned instances, the spouse of a former employee retired
from Town service shall be permitted to remain in the Town's health insurance
group if the spouse reimburses the Town for the additional costs of family
coverage.
