There shall be no parking upon streets or roads
in the Township of Medford, or sections thereof, where temporary emergency
no-parking signs are displayed, when weather conditions, accidents,
fires or public celebrations dictate or require the avoidance of hazards
or other conditions which interfere with the free flow of traffic.
The Chief of Police, or in the Chief's absence, the ranking police
officer, is authorized to declare an emergency pursuant to the provisions
of this article and to direct the posting of said emergency no-parking
signs. The Chief of Police or the Chief's designee shall make every
effort to provide personal notification that the emergency no-parking
signs are being or will be posted to any operator or owner of any
vehicle which has been parked in the emergency no-parking area prior
to the posting of the signs.
Any unoccupied vehicle parked or standing in
violation of this article shall be deemed a nuisance and a menace
to the safe and proper regulation of traffic, and any police officer
may provide for the removal of such vehicle. The owner of said vehicle
shall be responsible for the reasonable cost of the removal and storage
which may result from such removal, and shall pay for same prior to
regaining possession of the vehicle.
This article shall not be effective unless emergency
no-parking signs are posted as set forth herein.
Unless another penalty is expressly provided
by New Jersey statute, any person convicted of a violation of the
provision of this article or any supplement thereto shall be liable
for a penalty of not more than $50 or imprisonment for a term not
exceeding 15 days, or both.
