As used in this chapter, the following terms shall have the meanings indicated:
Approved by a Village Plumbing Inspector under these rules and regulations or approved by an authority designated by law or these rules and regulations.
Board of Trustees of the Village of Piermont.
A part of the piping system other than a main, riser or stack.
A structure wholly or partially enclosed within exterior walls or within exterior and party walls and a roof, affording shelter to persons, animals or property.
See Chapter 5 of the New York State Building Code applicable to plumbing.
A building drainage system which drains by gravity into the building drain.
That part of the lowest piping of a sanitary system which receives the discharge of waste and other sanitary pipes inside the walls of the building and conveys such discharges to the building sewer. The building sewer shall be considered to extend three feet outside the building wall.
That part of the sanitary system which extends from the end of the building piping and conveys its discharges to a public sewer, private sewer, individual sewage disposal system or any other approved points of disposal.
A device, fitting or assembly of fittings installed in the building sewer to prevent sewer gases from entering and circulating through the building piping system inside the building.
A building sewer which conveys sewage but does not convey stormwater.
A building drain which conveys stormwater but does not convey sewage.
A branch leading from a soil, waste or vent pipe or building sewer and terminating at a developed length of pipe by means of a plug, cap or other closed fitting.
The nominal diameter as designated commercially, unless otherwise specifically stated.
That part of a plumbing system which conveys rainwater or other liquid wastes, which includes pipes, stormwater drains and subsoil drains. See "plumbing system."
A building containing not more than two dwelling units occupied exclusively for residential uses.
A building containing three or more dwelling units.
A building containing living, sanitary and sleeping facilities occupied by one or two families and more than four lodgers residing with either one of such families.
A building, other than a one- or two-family dwelling, used or occupied by permanent or transient paying guests or tenants, with one or more sleeping rooms.
A building with sleeping accommodations for more than five persons, used or occupied as a club, dormitory, fraternity or sorority house or for similar uses.
A building used or occupied as a convalescent or old-age nursing home or rest home, but not including private or public institutions.
A building arranged for one dwelling unit.
A building arranged for two dwelling units.
One or more rooms with provisions for living, sanitary and sleeping facilities, arranged for the use of one family.
Personnel lawfully empowered to enforce these rules and regulations.
A plumbing system installed prior to the effective date of these rules and regulations.
A building, structure or other real property, or an area or portion thereof, constructed, altered or improved to afford protection against harmful radiation resulting from radioactive fallout, including such plumbing, heating, electrical, ventilating, conditioning, filtrating and refrigerating equipment and other mechanical additions or installations, if any, as may be an integral part thereof.
The pipe extending from the fixture trap to the connection of that pipe with any other sewer pipe.
The water supply pipe connecting a fixture to a branch water-supply pipe or directly to a main water-supply pipe.
Solid wastes from the preparation, cooking and dispensing of food and from the handling, storage and sale of produce.
A specification, code, rule, guide or procedure in the field of construction or related thereto, recognized and accepted as authoritative.

A pipe which does not connect with the drainage system but conveys and discharges liquid wastes into an approved plumbing fixture or receptacle which is directly connected to the sanitary system.
A vertical drainage pipe for conveying stormwater from roof or gutter drains.

Any outlet into a watercourse, river, pond, creek, ditch, kill or other body of surface, ground- or subsurface water.
Written notification from a Plumbing Inspector or authorized person sent by certified mail, return receipt requested.
The logarithm of the reciprocal of the weight of hydrogen ions in grams per liter of solution.
The practice, materials and fixtures used in the installation, maintenance, extension and alteration of piping, fixtures, appliances and appurtenances in connection with any of the following: sanitary or storm drainage systems, the attendant vent systems and the water supply systems, within or adjacent to any building or structure to their connections with public systems or other approved terminals.
The water supply system, the drainage system, the vent system, fixtures and traps, including their respective connections, devices and appurtenances within the property lines of the premises.
Water which is approved for drinking, culinary and domestic purposes.
The waste from the preparation, cooking and dispensing of food which has been shredded to such a degree that all particles will be carried freely under the flow conditions normally prevailing in public sewers with no particle greater than 3/8 inch in any dimension.
A sewer in which all owners of abutting properties have equal rights and which is controlled by public authority.
A vent pipe installed at a special location where necessary to permit additional circulation of air between drainage and vent systems.
A water supply pipe which extends vertically to convey water to branches or fixtures.
A sewer which carries sewage and to which storm- , surface and ground waters are not intentionally admitted.
A sewer which collects sewage but is not intended to carry such sewage to a central treatment plant, but is intended to dispose of the sewage within such system.
Any liquid waste, containing animal or vegetable matter in suspension or solution, and which may include industrial wastes and liquids containing chemicals.
Any arrangement of devices and structures used for treating sewage.
All facilities for collecting, pumping, treating and disposing of sewage.
A pipe or conduit for carrying sewage.
A pipe which conveys sewage.
A principal vertical soil, waste or vent pipe.
A drain which, carries storm- and surface waters and drainage, but excludes sewage and polluted industrial wastes.
A building drainage system which drains by gravity into the building drain.
A drain installed underground for the purpose of draining and conveying subsurface or seepage water to an approved point of disposal.
Solids that either float on the surface or are in suspension in water, sewage or other liquids and which are removable by filtration.
A fitting or device designed and constructed so as to provide, when properly vented, a liquid seal which will prevent the back passage of air from the piping system without materially affecting the flow of sewage or wastewater through it.
The vertical distance between the crown weir and the dip of a trap.
That part of a plumbing system consisting of piping installed to permit adequate circulation of air in all parts of the sanitary system and to prevent trap siphonage and back pressure. See "plumbing system."

A pipe which conveys only liquid wastes.
A channel in which a flow of water occurs, either continuously or intermittently.
A pipe, in a building or premises, which conveys water from the water service pipe to plumbing fixtures or other water outlets.
A water supply pipe provided for public use.
A discharge opening through which water is supplied to a fixture, into the atmosphere (except into an open tank which is part of the water supply system), to a building heating system or to devices or equipment requiring water to operate but which are not part of the plumbing system.
The pipe from the water main or other source of water supply to the water distributing system of the building served.
That part of a plumbing system consisting of the water service pipe, water service control valve, water meter, required meter valves and testing provisions, domestic water supply pumps, domestic water supply tanks, combination of domestic and fire protection system supply tanks, devices for protection of the potable water supply, water-treating apparatus for corrosion control and water distributing pipes up to the water outlets for supplying potable water to building heating systems, boiler plant apparatus, engine room machines, industrial process equipment, air-conditioning and refrigeration systems and fire protection standpipe and automatic sprinkler systems.
