There shall be a Police Department in the Village
of Scotia, established and operated in accordance with all applicable
provisions of Article 8 of the Village Law.
The Board of Trustees, acting as Police Commissioners
of the Village, shall make, adopt and enforce rules and regulations
for the administration of the Police Department and the appointment,
conduct and discipline of the members thereof.
The Deputy Chief of Police shall be second in
command of the Department and in the absence of the Chief shall perform
the duties of Police Chief.
Police Sergeants shall supervise and assist
the patrolmen assigned to them in the performance of the activities
and duties of any departmental section or division to which they may
be assigned. They shall be directly responsible at all times to the
Chief or the Deputy Chief.
The Village Board shall appoint all members
of the Police Department and approve promotions from the eligible
list established by the Civil Service Commission.

The Chief of Police shall have the power to
appoint such number of special policemen and school crossing guards
as may be authorized by the Board of Trustees.
