Township of Thornbury, PA Chapter 14 Fire Department

§ 14-1 Fire companies recognized.

The West Chester Fire Department, which consists of three companies, including First West Chester Company, Good Will Company and Fane Fire Company, is hereby recognized as the official Fire Department for Thornbury Township, in order that the members of these companies may derive the full benefit of governmental immunity and workers’ compensation statutes, rules and regulations.

§ 14-2 Authorized activities of the fire companies.

West Chester Fire Department, including First West Chester Company, Good Will Company and Fame Fire Company, is hereby authorized to provide such services to the township as may be necessary for the protection of property and persons situate therein, including, by way of example but not of limitation, the following:

A. Prevention of loss or injury to persons and property from fire, automobile accidents, medical emergencies, hazardous materials and like dangerous eventualities;

B. Removal of water from property after storms, assistance in the removal, abatement and prevention of damage or injury to persons or property, whether through natural or man-made causes, and performance of like public service functions of an emergency or nonemergency nature;

C. Conducting and participation in such educational or training activities, either within or outside of Thornbury Township, as may be deemed necessary by the officers of the Companies to maintain proficiency in providing service; and

D. Responding to calls and providing service to municipalities outside of Thornbury Township.

§ 14-3 Authorized activities of members.

In addition to participating in the activities authorized in § 14-2 above, or in going to or returning from any authorized activity, the members of West Chester Fire Department, including First West Chester Company, Good Will Company and Fame Fire Company, is authorized to do the following when properly approved by an officer of the Companies:

A. Participate in any type of drill, training, education, ceremony, practice, test or parade.

B. Engage in fundraising activities benefiting Fame Fire Company No. 3, Goshen Fire Company Nos. 54 and 154 or Concordville Fire Company.

C. Engage in the performance of any other duty or activity intended for the proper benefit of Fame Fire Company No. 3, Goshen Fire Company Nos. 54 and 154 or Concordville Fire Company.
