The following types of appointments may be made to the Town government service in conformity with the rules established:
A. 
Full-time employment. An appointment to work a standard workweek on a continuing or indefinite basis. Such persons are subject to these rules and regulations and receive all benefits and rights provided herein.
B. 
Regular scheduled part-time employment. An appointment to work a regular scheduled week consisting of 20 hours or more each week. Such person will be eligible to receive sick, vacation, and holiday benefits on a pro rata basis. Regular scheduled part-time employees hired prior to January 12, 2009, shall be grandfathered at 16 hours or more each week for the purposes of receiving sick, vacation, and holiday benefits on a pro rata basis.

C. 
Part-time employment. An appointment to work less than the standard workweek and not eligible for benefits but on a continuing or indefinite basis.
D. 
Seasonal employment. An appointment to work for a specific season (may work standard workweek or less) and with the expectation of being laid off at the end of the season for which appointed.
E. 
Student appointments. These appointments are on an internship basis and afford students majoring in fields valuable to public service an opportunity to gain work experience. Such appointments are for a definite period of time, typically less than six months. Compensation and other conditions of employment are determined in accordance with the internship program of the sending school and applicable portions of the Town's personnel rules.
F. 
On-call employment. An appointment to render a specified type of service to the Town, such as fire fighting, on an irregular basis and only in response to a specific call to service from the Town. Periods of service normally involve only a few hours.
G. 
Emergency temporary appointments. The Town Manager may authorize appointment of employees on a temporary basis in order to prevent stoppage of public business or loss or serious inconvenience to the public.
H. 
Limited-term employment. These appointments are made for definite but limited periods of time and are made when a special project requires the addition of employees for a specific time or to fill a position of an employee on a leave of absence or at long-term training such as occurs in the police field. These opportunities may also include persons hired under an existing federal manpower program. In such cases, the range of benefits made available to the employee will be assessed in the light of the applicable federal or state regulations and these personnel rules.
