The driver of a vehicle shall stop in obedience to a stop sign at the intersections set forth below, where a stop sign is erected at one or more entrances thereto although not a part of a through highway and shall proceed cautiously, yielding to vehicles not so obliged to stop, which are within the intersection or approaching so as to constitute an immediate hazard, but may then proceed.
The intersections set forth herein are hereby designated as stop intersections, and vehicles traveling in the direction specified on the road specified shall come to a full stop before proceeding:

Every person convicted of a violation of this article, either § 258-1 or 258-2 hereof, may be punished by fine not exceeding in amount $500 or imprisonment not exceeding one year, or by both such fine and imprisonment.
