No person shall knowingly resist or obstruct an officer while such officer is doing any act in an official capacity and with lawful authority.
For the purpose of this article, the following terms shall have the following meanings:
OBSTRUCT
Includes, without limitation, knowingly giving false information to the officer or knowingly placing physical evidence with intent to mislead the officer in the performance of his or her duty, including the service of any summons or civil process.
OFFICER
A peace officer or other public officer or public employee having the authority, by virtue of his/her office or employment, to take another into custody.
Any person who shall violate any provisions of this article shall, upon conviction thereof, forfeit not less than $25 nor more than $300, together with the costs of prosecution and court costs and fees. Payment of the judgment may be suspended by the sentencing court for not more than 60 days. Any person who shall fail to pay the amount of the forfeiture plus all costs for violation of any provision of this article may, upon order of the court entering judgment therefor and having jurisdiction of the case, be imprisoned until such forfeiture and costs are paid, but not exceeding 90 days.
