The purpose and intent of this chapter of the Village of Lake
George is to protect the public health, welfare and safety of the
residents and visitors of the Village of Lake George. The Board of
Trustees of the Village of Lake George finds that registering and
hiring of peace officers is necessary to enforce its local laws, and
exercise any other power authorized by any general or special law
or charter whenever acting pursuant to his or her special duties,
provided such power is not inconsistent with the provisions of the
Penal Law or this chapter.
For the purposes of this chapter only, the following words shall
be interpreted and defined as follows:
DESIGNEE
A New York State Department of Criminal Justice Services
registered peace officer authorized by the Board of Trustees of the
Village of Lake George to hire, terminate, and train other peace officers.
PEACE OFFICER
A person authorized and defined by New York State Criminal
Procedure Law § 2.10(1), as regulated by the Division of
Criminal Justice Services.
If any clause, sentence, paragraph, subdivision, section, or
part of this chapter or the application thereof to any person, individual,
corporation, firm, partnership, entity, or circumstance shall be adjudged
by any court of competent jurisdiction to be invalid or unconstitutional,
such order or judgment shall not affect, impair or invalidate the
remainder thereof, but shall be confined in its operation to the clause,
sentence, paragraph, subdivision, section or part of this chapter,
or in its application to the person, individual, corporation, firm,
partnership, entity, or circumstance directly involved in the controversy
in which such order or judgment shall be rendered.
This chapter shall take effect immediately upon filing in the
office of the Secretary of State of New York State.
