There shall be the following offices and positions of employment for the Township of Carneys Point. The Township Committee shall, by resolution, appoint qualified persons to said offices and positions of employment. Said appointments shall be made for the terms specified opposite the respective office or position of employment:

Pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40A:9-140.1, the position of Municipal Finance Officer is hereby established for Carneys Point Township. Any person appointed to this position shall be appointed for a one-year term or such other term as may be fixed by New Jersey statutes. The Municipal Finance Officer shall be compensated in accordance with the provisions of Chapter 37 of the Carneys Point Township Code.

Pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40A:9-154.6, the position of Carneys Point Township Superintendent of Public Works is hereby created. Any person who shall hold the position of Carneys Point Township Superintendent of Public Works for five years or more shall be granted tenure of office and shall continue to hold the position of Carneys Point Township Superintendent of Public Works during good behavior and efficiency. Any person who shall attain tenure in the position of Carneys Point Township Superintendent of Public Works shall not be removed from said position except upon a public, fair and impartial hearing in accordance with the provisions of N.J.S.A. 40A:9-154.6. The Carneys Point Township Superintendent of Public Works shall be compensated in accordance with the provisions of Chapter 37 of the Carneys Point Township Code.

The term of office for the offices and positions stated in § 23-1 hereof shall commence on January 1 and terminate on December 31 of each year, except for the position of Tax Assessor and Deputy Tax Assessor. The term of the Tax Assessor and Deputy Tax Assessor shall commence on the first day of July next following his or her appointment. The term of office for the offices and positions of employment set forth in § 23-1 hereof shall terminate on December 31, except for the term of office of the Tax Assessor and Deputy Tax Assessor which shall terminate on June 30. The term of office for the Deputy Township Clerk/Secretary first appointed under the terms of Ordinance No. 473 shall commence on January 1, 1990, and terminate on December 31, 1992.

If a vacancy should occur in any of the aforementioned offices or positions of employment, said vacancy shall be filled by appointment made by the Township Committee for the remainder of the unexpired term.

The offices and positions of employment established in this article shall be in addition to such other offices and positions of employment as are established in other provisions of the Carneys Point Township Code.

The salaries for the offices and positions of employment established in § 23-1 hereof shall be as provided by a Salary Ordinance which may be adopted by the Township Committee from time to time.[1]
