A. Concrete driveways. Concrete driveways or aprons shall have a
subgrade of granular material of at least four inches thickness. The subgrade
shall be well compacted to the satisfaction of the Township. The concrete
shall be a minimum 4,500 pounds per square inch rating, with documentation
establishing such rating to be filed with the Township Construction Office.
Wire mesh of W6 x W6 type shall be enmeshed in the concrete along the center
line of thickness, two inches from the bottom of the slab. The concrete slab
shall have a uniform thickness of not less than four inches. Expansion joints
shall be placed in the driveway or apron not greater than 10 feet apart, and
control joints shall be established not less than six feet apart unless otherwise
directed by the Township.
B. Asphalt driveways or aprons. Asphalt driveways or aprons shall
have a subgrade of granular material of at least four inches thickness. The
subgrade shall be well compacted to the satisfaction of the Township. The
pavement shall consist of the following three layers: a layer of dense graded
aggregate stone, at least four inches thick; a layer of base course hot mix
asphalt, no less than two inches thick; and a layer of top course hot mix
asphalt not less than two inches thick. Each layer of the driveway or apron
shall be proof-rolled to the satisfaction of the Township during construction.
All formwork and installation shall be inspected under the supervision
of the Township Engineer.
No driveway or apron shall be constructed within the Township without
the property owner first having obtained a driveway/apron inspection permit
from the Township Land Use Coordinator. The completed application shall be
submitted together with a permit fee of $25 and an inspection fee of $250.
The Township Land Use Coordinator shall, not less than once annually,
provide all general and paving contractors known to the Coordinator to be
operating in the Township with written notice of the permit and construction
requirements of this chapter. The initial notice shall be sent within 60 days
of the effective date of this chapter by certified mail.
This chapter shall not relieve the person or entity actually constructing
the driveway or apron from responsibility for the quality of construction
and any defects in materials or workmanship.
