[The electors of the Borough of South Plainfield
approved the adoption of the provisions of the Civil Service Act of
the State of New Jersey at an election held on November 7, 1950. Thereafter
the Civil Service Commission of the State of New Jersey made a survey
of all municipal offices, positions and employments and certified
to the governing body of the Borough three separate and distinct schedules.
The governing body then adopted these schedules by ordinance and created
the offices, positions and employments listed in the schedules, and
the ordinance was carried into the 1964 codification adopted October
13, 1964, as Chapter 5 of that codification. Subsequently the New
Jersey Civil Service Department submitted revised schedules to the
governing body, and these schedules were incorporated into an amendatory
ordinance adopted June 23, 1975, which is on file in the office of
the Borough Clerk.]
