All newly hired police officers shall be subject to a working
test period. The purpose of the working test period is to permit the
Township to determine whether the employee can satisfactorily perform
the duties of a police officer. The working test period for entry-level
law enforcement officers shall be 12 months.
Progress reports shall be made to the appropriate authority
quarterly during the working test period and shall also be provided
to the employee. A final progress report shall be completed at the
end of the entire working test period and shall be provided to the
employee and the appropriate authority.
Employees who do not satisfactorily perform the duties of a
police officer shall be terminated from employment at the end of the
working test period. Nothing herein shall prevent the termination
of an employee for cause during or prior to the completion of the
working test period.
