A. The County of Suffolk has historically made a special effort to recognize
the contributions volunteers make to our community and nation.
B. Volunteer members of the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT)
educate the public about disaster preparedness and provide training
in basic disaster response skills.
C. Section 50(5)(b) of the New York State Civil Service Law authorizes
counties to waive civil service application fees for specific classes
of positions, types of examinations and/or candidates.
D. It is in the best interest of the County to waive civil service examination
fees for volunteer members of CERT.
The County of Suffolk hereby establishes an application fee
waiver policy for eligible candidates who are volunteer members of
CERT and residents of Suffolk County.
A. Such fees shall be waived for candidates who submit a valid Suffolk
County CERT team member photo identification card, which will include
an expiration date, along with proof that said applicant is a Suffolk
County resident.
B. Every Suffolk County civil service examination announcement with
an application fee shall have information printed on the announcement
informing potential applicants of the fee waiver policy.
