There is hereby created the Department of Public Safety for
the City of Charleston, Missouri. This Department shall consist of
the Director of Public Safety and such officers and employees as may
be provided for by the City Council and assigned to this Department.

It shall be the function of the Department of Public Safety
to preserve order, enforce all ordinances and laws in the City, preserve
the peace, mitigate the results and render aid in case of disaster
or accident, and to prevent and extinguish accidental or destructive
fires.
