The sale or offering for sale, the discharging, firing or use of fireworks, rockets, torpedoes, roman candles, firearms or other fireworks or substances designed and intended for pyrotechnic display and of pistols, canes, cannons or other appliances using blank cartridges or caps containing chlorate or potash mixture or the storing of any of the above within the limits of the Village of Chatham is hereby prohibited, except upon a special permit issued by the Village Clerk and countersigned by the Mayor.
Any person, firm or corporation violating any of the provisions of this chapter shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and shall be fined not less than $50 nor more than $250.

A. 
Discharge of firearms prohibited. No person shall, except in self-defense and when reasonably necessary for the protection of life or property, fire or discharge or cause to be fired or discharged any projectile firing ammunition from any machine gun, rifle, shotgun, air rifle, air pistol, ballistic knife or other dangerous weapon, as defined in § 265.00 of the Penal Law, within the boundaries of the Incorporated Village of Chatham.
B. 
Exceptions. The prohibitions in this section shall not apply to any officer of the law while engaged in the protection of the safety of the people of the State of New York.
