In addition to any use or purpose permitted in any area or zone by this chapter or by the amendments thereof and supplements thereto, home occupations, as hereinafter defined in § 580-79, shall be permitted in any such area or zone.
As used in this article, the following terms shall have the meanings indicated:
HOME OCCUPATION
An occupation or a profession which:
A. 
Is customarily carried on in a dwelling unit or in a building or structure accessory to a dwelling unit.
B. 
Is carried on by a member of the family residing in the dwelling unit.
C. 
Is clearly incidental and secondary to the use of the dwelling unit for residential purposes.
D. 
Conforms to the following additional conditions:
(1) 
The occupation or profession shall be carried on wholly within the principal building or within a building or other structure accessory thereto.
(2) 
Not more than one person outside of the family shall be employed full time in the home occupation. No more than one part-time person or apprentice outside of the family shall be employed or utilized in the home occupation.

(3) 
There shall be no exterior display or exterior sign, except that a small professional nameplate or sign not exceeding in dimension 10 inches by 18 inches may be displayed, which shall constitute the only display or advertising permitted; and there shall be no exterior storage of material and no other exterior indication of the home occupation or variation from the residential character of the principal building.
(4) 
No offensive noise, vibration, smoke, dust, odors, heat or glare shall be produced.
(5) 
The actual area utilized for the home occupation shall not exceed 15% of the total living area of the dwelling unit, but in no event more than 450 square feet, no matter in what type of structure activity is being conducted.

In particular, a home occupation includes and is limited to the following: the office of an accountant, physician, surgeon, psychologist, veterinarian, dentist, engineer, lawyer, real estate or insurance agent or broker, surveyor, artist, optometrist, optician or chiropractor, residing on the premises. No more than one home occupation shall be permitted on the premises.
