All buildings within the boundaries of the Township of Maplewood shall display their street address numbers in numerals of at least four inches in height pursuant to N.J.A.C. 5:70-3 and Section 505.1 of the New Jersey Uniform Fire Code, in clear view by the front entrance door of the building. If the building has a street mailbox, it shall also have the building number displayed on it. All numbers shall be displayed in such a way that they are visible to persons passing by the premises on the abutting street. Numbers shall be of contrasting colors of the space being adhered to. If a building is not viewable from the street, numerals conforming to the specifications above shall also be placed at an area located on the property which is visible from the abutting street.
No certificate of occupancy, smoke detector certification, or certificate of continued use will be issued by any personnel in the Department of Community Development or the Maplewood Fire Department unless the provisions of the foregoing section or sections have been complied with.
The provisions of this chapter shall be enforced by the Department of Community Development or the Maplewood Fire Department.
Property owners found to be in violation of this chapter shall be subject to the following penalties:
A. 
First offense: The property owner shall receive a written warning notice from the Township. Such notice shall allow the property owner one week in which to cure the violation.
B. 
Second and subsequent offenses: The property owner shall receive a fine of $100 per offense.
