A lump-sum pension of $5,000 shall be paid to the widow, widower or minor children of a volunteer first-aid or rescue squad worker who has died as the result of injuries sustained in the performance of duty, as the same is defined in Chapter 331 of the Laws of 1968,[1] whenever the recipient or recipients of such payment shall qualify for the receipt of the same pursuant to the aforementioned statute.

Said payment shall be made upon proof of death and proof of the fact that the claimant therefor is either the widow or widower of or the minor children of the decedent.
