A. 
There shall be a Tax Assessor, pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40A:9-146 et seq., who shall be appointed by the Mayor, with the advice and consent of the Borough Council, to an initial term of four years from the first day of January next following appointment and who shall receive a salary as determined by the annual salary ordinance and resolution. The Tax Assessor shall be certified as a certified tax assessor by the New Jersey Division of Taxation. Upon completion of an initial four-year term of office and reappointment by the Mayor, with the advice and consent of the Borough Council, the Tax Assessor shall be granted tenure pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40A:9-146 et seq.
B. 
The Tax Assessor shall be the Director of the Tax Assessment Office and shall report to the Borough Administrator for administrative and personnel purposes and provide regular reports of the activity of the Office to the Borough Administrator.
C. 
The Tax Assessor may receive administrative assistance from employees of other Borough offices, with the approval of the Borough Administrator, for the purpose of fulfilling the responsibilities and duties of the Tax Assessment Office.
D. 
To provide for an orderly transition and continuity of operations of the Tax Assessment Office, when it is anticipated that either 1) the Tax Assessor will be retiring or otherwise leaving office, or 2) that a new Tax Assessor will be hired, or 3) that the Tax Assessor will be on leave of absence or otherwise unable to perform their duties for a period of time, then there may be a Deputy Tax Assessor, as may be determined by the Mayor and Borough Council. The Deputy Tax Assessor shall be certified as a certified tax assessor by the New Jersey Division of Taxation, shall be appointed by the Mayor, with the advice and consent of the Borough Council, shall receive a salary as determined by the annual salary ordinance and resolution, and shall serve at the pleasure of the Mayor and Borough Council for such period of time as determined by the Mayor and Borough Council.
A. 
The powers and duties of the Tax Assessor shall be established and governed by the laws of the State of New Jersey subject to the oversight and regulations of the New Jersey Division of Taxation.
B. 
The Tax Assessor shall maintain office hours of not less than two hours per week for the purpose of meeting with the public or shall otherwise be available to the public via appointment.
